Troubleshooting Your Kohler Touchless Faucet

Kohler Touchless Faucet Will Not Turn On

If your Kohler touchless faucet will not turn on, start by ensuring the handle is in the ‘on’ position and that the water lines are not kinked. Then proceed to look at power supply problems as shown below.

1. Check the Batteries

If your faucet uses a battery pack to supply power, you will need to check the batteries. If they are low or dead, replace them with fresh batteries and see if that solves the problem. The battery pack will be located under the sink.

2. Check the AC Adapter

Some Kohler touchless faucets use an AC adapter to supply power. If yours has one, make sure it is plugged into an outlet and the outlet is receiving power. You will need to look under the sink to check the AC adapter. Also, make sure the connection to the faucet is still intact.

3. Check for Loose Wiring

Another possible reason why your touchless faucet may have stopped working is loose wiring. This is generally more common in older models of touchless faucets but it’s still worth checking if you’re having trouble getting yours to work.

  • To access the wiring, you’ll need to remove the cover plate from the back of the unit.
  • Once you’ve done that, inspect the wiring for any loose connections. If you see any, tighten them up and see if that solves the problem.

4. Check the Sensor

Another common issue that can cause touchless faucets to stop working properly is a dirty or obstructed sensor. The sensor is located on the spout and is responsible for turning the water on and off when it senses motion. If something is blocking the sensor or if it’s just dirty, it won’t work properly.

To clean or unblock your sensor:

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away any dirt or debris that may be blocking the sensor.
  • If your Kohler touchless faucet has an adjustable sensor, you can try adjusting it to see if that solves the problem.

5. Check the Water Supply

If your Kohler touchless faucet is not getting any water, then there may be an issue with your water supply.

  • First, check to make sure the shut-off valves under your sink are fully open.
  • Then, check all the connections to make sure they’re tight and there are no leaks.
  • Finally, turn on your faucet and let the water run for a few minutes to see if that clears up the problem.

Kohler Touchless Faucet is Leaking

If your Kohler touchless faucet is leaking and you have water leaking from the spout, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue.

1. Check the Cartridge

Faucets have a valve/cartridge inside the handle that controls water flow. When you turn the handle it is actually turning this cartridge. Over time, these cartridges can and do wear out and cause a leak.

To fix this issue:

  1. Turn off the water to your Kohler touchless faucet at the shutoff valves under the sink.
  2. Remove the handle to access the valve/cartridge. Using a 3/32″ Hex wrench loosen the Hex screw in the handle and pull out the handle.
  3. Unscrew the bonnet cover and then unscrew the mounting nut. This will expose the valve/cartridge.
  4. Once you have access to the cartridge, simply pull it and the O-ring out from the faucet. You will need to replace it with a new one.

If it’s not damaged, clean it off and reassemble the faucet. Turn the water back on and see if the leak has stopped.

2. Check the O-rings

O-rings are small rubber rings that create a seal between different parts of your faucet. Over time, these O-rings can become brittle and crack, causing a leak.

To fix this issue:

  1. Turn off the water to your Kohler touchless faucet at the shutoff valves under the sink.
  2. Remove the handle to access the valve/cartridge (see above).
  3. Unscrew the bonnet cover and then unscrew the mounting nut. This will expose the valve/cartridge.
  4. Once you have access to the cartridge, simply pull it and the O-ring out from the faucet. Inspect the O-ring for any damage and replace it if necessary.

Reassemble the faucet and turn the water back on. See if the leak has stopped.

3. Check the Manual Override

The control box under the sink has a manual override dial to enable you to set the faucet in manual or automatic mode. You either turn it clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on your model, to enable manual operation mode.

So if your Kohler touchless faucet is leaking turn the dial a little more toward automatic mode to stop the leak.

4. Check the Aerator

The aerator is located at the tip of the spout and it’s responsible for mixing air with water to create a smooth flow. Over time, these aerators can become clogged with minerals and debris, which can cause water to drain slowly and look like a leak.

To fix this issue:

  1. Remove the aerator by unscrewing it from the tip of the spout.
  2. Soak the aerator in a cup of vinegar for a few hours to remove any build-up.
  3. Rinse it off and screw it back into place.

Turn the water back on and see if the leak has stopped.

Kohler Touchless Faucet is Making Noise

If your Kohler touchless faucet is making noise, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue.

1. Check the Water Pressure

If your Kohler touchless faucet is making a knocking noise, it could be due to high water pressure. The knocking noise is caused by the water hitting the valve too hard and causing it to vibrate.

  • To fix this issue turn down the water supply valves a little to decrease the amount of water flow to the faucet.

2. Check the Inlet Screen

If your Kohler touchless faucet is making a humming noise, it could be due to a clogged inlet screen. The inlet screens are located inside the control box under the sink and they prevent debris from getting into the faucet.

To fix this issue:

  • Turn off the water to your Kohler touchless faucet at the shutoff valves under the sink.
  • Check the control box water supply line for this inlet screen.
  • Unscrew the line and remove the screen. Rinse it off and put it back in place.

Kohler Touchless Faucet Water Pressure is Low

If your Kohler touchless faucet’s water pressure is low, there are a few things that could be causing the problem.

1. Check the Water Supply Lines

One possible reason for low water pressure is a clogged or restricted water supply line. To check the water supply lines:

  1. Turn off the water to your Kohler touchless faucet at the shutoff valves under the sink.
  2. Disconnect the water line connected to the control box under the sink.
  3. Place the water line in a bucket and turn back on the water.
  4. Turn on the faucet to drain water into the bucket and clear any debris from the line.

2. Check the Shutoff Valves

Make sure the water supply shutoff valves are fully open and supplying full water pressure to the faucet. These are located under the sink, one is for hot water, and the other for cold water.

Kohler Touchless Faucet Water Temperature is Not Right

If your Kohler touchless faucet is working but the water temperature is not right, there are a few things that could be causing the problem.

1. Check the Shutoff Valves

If your Kohler touchless faucet is not getting enough hot water, it could be due to the hot water side shutoff valve being partially closed. This valve is located under the sink, usually on the left side.

To fix this issue:

  • Locate this valve and see if you can turn it “on” more to add more hot water to the mix.

2. Check the Faucet Handle

The touchless handle faucet may be in the wrong position to supply the correct water temperature. Check to see if the handle is in the correct position for hot or cold water.

  • If the handle is in the wrong position, turn it to the correct position. You make adjustments just like any other faucet.

How To Reset Kohler Touchless Faucet

The easiest way to reset a Kohler touchless faucet is to simply turn off the power to the faucet at the battery box or AC adapter. This will completely reset the faucet.

  1. Turn off the power to the Kohler touchless faucet at the battery box or AC adapter.
  2. Remove the batteries from the battery box.
  3. Wait a few minutes and then replace the batteries in the battery box.
  4. Turn the AC power back on to the Kohler touchless faucet.
  5. Test the faucet to see if it is working properly.

If the Kohler touchless faucet is still not working properly, proceed to the next step.

Set Faucet Operation

Properly set up your touchless faucet’s operation.

  1. Turn the faucet handle to the ON position. You should see the handle LED light up.
  2. Make sure the manual override dial on the solenoid valve is turned to automatic mode.
  3. Wave your hand under the sensor on the faucet’s spout to turn OFF the water flow.
  4. Wave your hand under the sensor again to test if the water will turn back ON.

How To Override The Sensor

The solenoid box under the sink has a manual override dial to enable you to set the faucet in manual or automatic mode. You either turn it clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on your model, to enable manual operation mode.

  1. Turn off the water to your Kohler touchless faucet at the shutoff valves under the sink.
  2. Locate the solenoid box for your Kohler touchless faucet under the sink.
  3. Find the manual override dial on the solenoid valve and turn it to the manual mode position.
  4. Turn the water supply back on.

This will disengage any automatic function on your faucet and place it in fully manual operation mode.
